Recently, I have not been feeling my strongest and most energized. I knew I wanted to make a difference when I noticed myself getting winded a lot quicker. I have always been a plus size woman and I always plan on being one, but a regular workout routine and balanced eating (I literally can not say no to ice cream) have always been important to me.
My friend Lydia (you might recognize her name from all of my photo credits) has worked with a trainer for a while and she’s mentioned her gym a couple of times to me. I always loved the way it sounded and how comfortable she feels there. I knew I had to check them out.
I started working with Hype Gym in Union Square just a couple of weeks ago and I’m so happy I decided to do so. My trainer’s name is Nick and we had such an empowering chat before our first workout- I knew we were going to get along just great. In the past, I’ve worked with trainers who only saw “get skinny” as the end goal or shamed me for my body. Nick is the total opposite. He’s a big supporter of body positivity and loves that my end goal isn’t to lose weight, but just to feel strong and powerful. He’s totally aligned!
At my first session Nick tested my strength and what I can and can not do. I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I can do because it had been months since I worked out. He put together a work out plan for me and we got straight to work at my second session.
This gym is great because it’s small and really intimate. It’s a trainer’s gym so if someone is working out there they are working with a trainer. I love that! It makes me feel like everyone in there has a real goal and doesn’t have that “gym culture”thing going on if you know what I mean.
Nick’s attentive and also a ton of fun. He’s helping me work on push ups because that’s where I feel my weakest.
I’m also trying to work on that booty. Squats are literally the worst, but probably the best. Ugh.
As our routines get more formal I’ll make sure to share with you guys what I’m doing. So far I’m loving it all!
I highly recommend checking them out. It’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made- I’m already feeling a bit more pep in my step.
